Grant Conboy’s work explores the relationship between the physical and metaphysical spaces in which we inhabit, our borrowed identities, and the woven nature of fate.
Having taught students in the visual arts for over a decade, Conboy is constantly drawn to the topic of artistic creation. He is fascinated by our primal desire as humans to create, especially those who do so seemly unintentionally. We can also create in the mind, it's something we do constantly.
Where do these monuments of our imagination reside? Can something un-built be demolished- or rebuilt?
What happens to the paracosms of the dead?
Conboy’s influences are vast, but the ancient work moves him. As a child, Anatolian tribal kilims covered his floors and Byzantine icons adorned the walls. He spent hours staring at these cryptic gems of egg tempera and wool. He knew almost nothing of their story, yet they spoke directly to his soul.
